International Working Groups of Ayurveda
organised by the Dept of AYUSH, Government of India, 2009-2011
This page is organized for the International Working Groups
of Ayurveda (IWGA), whose inception was overseen by the Department of AYUSH,
Government of India, in Delhi, in late 2008. The group has been dormant since the reappointment of a new Secretary of AYUSH, Mr. Anilkumar, who is not supportive of the IWGA movement.
On March 17, 2009, several international stakeholders
and well-wishers of ayurveda, as well as NGO participants, and AYUSH
officials gathered at The Hotel Ashok in Delhi, for a two-day meeting on
the prospects of global propagation of ayurveda. The meeting was
organised by the Department of AYUSH, Ministry of Health & Family
Welfare, Government of India. AYUSH Secretary Mrs. S. Jalaja presided
over the meeting, with active involvement of her staff and colleagues.
By
the end of the meeting, a decision had been made by international
participants that working groups in five areas of focus would help to
sustain the efforts to globalize the timeless wisdom of ayurveda. Please see the 2009 members list for a list of participants. Members in attendance determined
as a group that the work of the March 16-17 conference needed to continue, as groups
worldwide continue to have growing information.
An
interim meeting was held in Baden Baden, Germany in October 2009, with a
focus on the legislative priorities of THMPD in Europe.
The
second Interactive Meeting of the IWGA was held May 3-4, 2010, in Delhi, at the
Hotel Ashok, under the auspices of the Department of AYUSH. The agenda
was to determine what work the international community of ayurveda wants
to do to promote the global propagation of ayurveda. Structure and
resources within India were also examined. Presentations of 2009 work were made. Please see the 2010 members list for a list of participants.
The optional
two-day Prelude was held at the CSIR Science Center on
May 1-2, 2010, as a joint collaboration between the IIIM-Jammu/CSIR and
The Dinacharya Institute. In total, twenty people attended the sangha.
