Council for Ayurveda Credentialing - USA

Establishing Standards for Ayurvedic Education in the USA

In the past five years, growing demand for Ayurvedic education has stimulated the establishment of more than 50 Ayurvedic training programs in the USA, created mostly by yoga practitioners and Ayurvedic program graduates.

With no unifying educational standards for content or scope of practice, graduates of Ayurveda have no common understanding of what fellow practitioners can and cannot do. Furthermore, clients searching for Ayurvedic consultation are unsure how to locate and ascertain the quality, credentials, and competence of a practitioner.

Several groups in the USA and in the growing community of Global Ayurveda have attempted to address the need for standardization of Ayurvedic education as a necessary step for credentialing, legalizing, and validating the practice of Ayurveda. However, none has yet disseminated definitive standards that the community of educators and active practitioners have approved.

In November 2011, The Council for Ayurvedic Credentialing (CAC) formed with the goal of experienced Ayurvedic education experts setting tangible standards for education, scope of practice and competence, with the perspective of patient safety and client referral in mind. To avoid conflict of interest, the council is created to be independent and not governed by any current organization of Ayurveda.

The task of creating tangible documents for the community of educators is being met with an upcoming release of curriculum guidelines, scope of practice guidelines and competency guidelines.  This site will also contain comprehensive information on programs of education in Ayurveda in the USA.      Watch for updates!

The mission of this council is to create documents of Ayurvedic Education Standards and well-defined scopes of practice for the various levels of education and educators of Ayurveda in the USA.

Please endorse the work of the CAC!

Let us know you support our work, in the interest of propagating quality Ayurvedic education standards in the USA, by writing to the Chair of the Council, at bhaswatimd@gmail.com.

I support the work of the CAC.

Founding members of the Council were invited based on their background as active practitioners of Ayurveda in the USA, their work as active educators in Ayurvedic educational programs in the USA, their background and training as Ayurvedic professionals, and their ability to “play well with others.”

The council is composed of Ayurvedic educators and practitioners, Vaidyas (Ayurvedic Physicians), Doctors (MDs). It is our firm belief that such work is best done by an independent group of Ayurvedic practitioners actively engaged in the field of education who have undergone thousands of hours in the milieu of education to develop their expertise.
